Howard R. Green Company, a consulting engineering and architecture firm with 95-years of history and strong focus on a growing future, is looking for exceptionally talented individuals ready to begin the next stage of their professional journey. We are currently seeking a Scientist to assist in the expansion of our Brownfields group in Cedar Rapids, IA.
This position will assist with Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA's), as well as risk evaluation, preparation of response actions, and coordination of clean-ups for a variety of brownfields projects. The position will be filled as a Staff Scientist or as a Project Scientist depending on the background and qualifications of the selected candidate.
The position will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Working cooperatively with other staff members to complete project reports and site figures. Performing research and writes environmental site assessment reports, proposals, and budgets.
- Assisting in the preparation of field sampling plans, health and safety plans, remediation plans, and quality assurance project plans.
- Completing field sampling, subcontractor oversight, inspection and data collection duties as directed by senior staff.
- Communicating with client staff and internal team as directed by senior staff.
The Scientist must possess a Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited four-year or graduate university in Geology, Soil Science, or Environmental Science, or a similar discipline. Must be available for field work that requires overnight travel up to 30% of the time. Seeking experience with contaminated site investigations, Phase I and/or Phase II ESA's, Iowa Tier 2 site assessments, and report writing. Experience with the Iowa DNR Land Recycling Program (LRP) strongly preffered. 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Must have working knowledge of office software (Word, Excel, etc.). Any experience with ARCGIS, CADD, and field sampling equipment a plus.
